On the occasion of this year’s annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, 60 prominent American academics, lawyers, intellectuals, and researchers, including two of Robert F. Kennedy’s children, are calling on Congress to open new investigations into four assassinations of the 1960s – President John F. Kennedy, Senator Robert Kennedy, Martin Luther King and Malcolm X – that had “a disastrous impact on the course of American history.”
In line with various calls the international Schiller Institute has issued over the past years, the creation of an Arab Reconstruction and Development Bank was called for for Michel Aoun on Ja. Speaking at the opening of the Arab Economic Summit held in Beirut, he said that the reconstruction of the Arab countries that have been affected by war and terrorism in recent years should become a priority. “Prosperity is the name of peace” was the title Aoun chose for that summit.
In an article written on Jan. 19 for the German weekly Neue Solidarität, the chair of the Schiller Institute Helga Zepp-LaRouche denounces the fawning letter of 31 German leaders to the Britons dated January 18, calling on them to remain in the European Union. Helga Zepp-LaRouche writes:
Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador is taking executive action to eradicate the devastating social problem of youth in the country. According to OECD figures, nearly 22% of Mexican youth are in the category labeled “NEET” — not in employment, education or training. These are the youth who are most often driven into the ranks of the drug cartel armies which have taken over much of Mexico, because they see no other option for survival.
Beyond all the uproar around the project of building a wall along the U.S.-Mexican border, U.S. President Donald Trump and his Mexican counterpart Andrés Manuel López Obrador reached an agreement on Dec. 19, which offers in principle a much more effective and humane way to end the migrant crisis than building a border wall, by going for the causes.
The same people who denied the existence of a systemic crisis in 2007 are now telling anyone who will listen that the financial markets are doing just fine, no danger of a meltdown. Sure, there were major losses on the stock markets in 2018, they say, but each had its own specific cause, unrelated to the others. For example, the Dow Jones lost about 10%, but that was due to Donald Trump’s so-called “trade war” with China; London was down by 12.4%, but only as a result of Brexit uncertainties, while Frankfurt’s 18.3% drop had to do with problems in the auto industry and at Deutsche Bank, and Milan lost 16.5% because of the “populist” government in Rome. For the biggest drop of all — Athens with 24.7% — there was no obvious cause, so it was attributed it to a “contagion” efffect.
Helga Zepp-LaRouche, chairwoman of the international Schiller Institute, recorded a video message for the New Year, which we present below. The video is available here.
The revolts in France against Emmanuel Macron and his policies have increasingly moved in the direction of a mass strike process; Great Britain threatens to sink into chaos over the Brexit policy, while the government is disintegrating; and in Germany, the two major parties of the post-war period are in a shambles, but nonetheless determined to stay their disastrous course, as seen in the recent CDU election. In short, the leaders of the three largest countries in the EU are finally being presented the bill for their failure to protect and defend the common good.
After the Nov. 6 mid-term elections in the United States, the LaRouche Political Action Committee launched a new initiative, called the Campaign To Secure the Future 2018-2020, to ensure a full-scale economic recovery in the United States, and thus defeat the still-ongoing coup by the machine known as the “deep state”. The fundamental platform remains the implementation of Lyndon LaRouche’s Four Laws for Economic Recovery (see below).
The China International Import Expo (CIIE), which was held Nov 5-10 in Shanghai, brought together some 3,600 foreign firms from some 150 countries, as well as 18 heads of state. It was a clear signal that China is taking a further step in its “reform and opening up” process and welcomes non-Chinese companies firms to come and sell their goods or set up businesses in China.
